APF's Parent Education Masterclass: Revealing the Diagnosis

This presentation discusses the process of sharing a child’s diagnosis with them. It highlights why disclosure is important: helping children understand themselves, reducing confusion, and affirming their right to know. Parent concerns, such as fears of upsetting the child or misuse of the label, are acknowledged. The presentation describes sharing as a gradual process, starting with recognizing strengths and challenges, using supportive comparisons, and teaching pride and privacy.
